Day 2

Fly to Murchison Falls National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your 12:00 pm flight to Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s oldest conservation areas. The flight takes you over Northern Uganda’s diverse landscapes, showcasing the beautiful flat topography.

Upon arrival at Bugungu/Pakuba Airstrip, your safari guide will greet you and transfer you to your accommodation, with an en route game drive. After reaching the lodge, you’ll have lunch and can either enjoy an afternoon game drive or relax at the lodge.

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and most famous nature reserve, known for the stunning Murchison Falls and its diverse wildlife. The park offers exciting activities such as boat safaris and Delta safaris on the Nile River, which splits the park into northern and southern sections as it cascades through rapids and waterfalls to Lake Albert. Despite past poaching and conflict that devastated wildlife, the park’s fauna, except for its rhino population, has rebounded remarkably. On a game drive, you’ll have the chance to see a wide variety of animals, including elephants, giraffes, lions, antelope, waterbucks, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles. Game drives occur on tracks in the northern section, accessible by ferry, ensuring an adventurous experience.

Day 3

Safari in Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll set out to explore the park. During your game drives, a keen eye and a bit of luck will help you spot a variety of animals. As you drive through the park, you’ll have the chance to see the diverse African wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, various antelope species, and many tropical birds. The park is particularly renowned for its large elephant herds, extensive bird species, and substantial buffalo populations. You’ll experience the park’s different ecosystems, from dense woodlands to vast savannahs and rolling grasslands. Since this is a private game drive, you can ask your guide to focus on specific birdlife or wildlife interests. A picnic lunch will be served, giving you a chance to relax and take a break.

In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a boat safari along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. This scenic cruise, lasting about 2 to 3 hours, offers stunning views and the chance to see crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, water birds, and monkeys along the way. Refreshments, including local beers and sodas, are available on board. If you’re interested in hiking, the boat can drop you near the falls, where you can hike up to the top (a 1 to 1.5-hour trek) for breathtaking views. Afterward, you’ll return to your lodge with a leisurely game drive en route and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure, whether swimming or dining.

Day 4

Boat Safari to the Nile Delta

The Nile Delta is where the Victoria Nile meets Lake Albert. The delta’s banks are home to numerous bird species, including the rare and prehistoric-looking shoebill stork and papyrus endemics. A boat safari through the delta is essential for birdwatchers. This approximately 5-hour tour allows you to enjoy breakfast while taking in the serene scenery. As you approach Lake Albert, you might see local fishermen in canoes catching tilapia, people fetching water from the Nile, and, if you’re lucky, wildlife along the banks. You may also spot hippos, crocodiles, and possibly elephants bathing in the river. Keep an eye on the treetops for monkeys like eastern fringed monkeys and baboons. The boat trip starts early in the morning during the soft, golden light, which is ideal for photography. If conditions are favorable, you might even see shoebills. Enjoy the tranquil experience and relax.

In the afternoon, you can choose another game drive for more wildlife viewing or unwind with a swim in the pool. Alternatively, you might opt for fishing on the Nile if you’re a fishing enthusiast.

Once you locate the gorillas, you’ll spend an hour observing these majestic animals up close, witnessing their daily lives and behaviors. With only about 850 mountain gorillas remaining worldwide, this experience is truly unique.

In the afternoon, you have the option to visit the Batwa community.

A visit to the Batwa Community offers a profound experience as you join a guided hike through the rainforest with elderly Batwa (pygmy) guides.
