You’ll have time to rest and prepare for your safari adventure the following day. Our driver will ensure your comfort and readiness for an exciting exploration of Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes and wildlife.

Kigali, Rwanda’s capital and largest city, is set across rolling green hills and surrounded by majestic mountains, including the prominent Mount Kigali, which rises 1,850 meters above sea level. As the country’s financial, commercial, and cultural center, Kigali boasts an international airport and offers a variety of accommodation, dining options, and attractions. Highlights include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a vibrant market, and numerous craft shops. Known for its intriguing architecture, bustling streets, winding boulevards, and lush hills, Kigali is considered one of Africa’s most attractive cities and is definitely worth a visit. The city is well-organized, renowned for its cleanliness, and known for its hospitable people.

Day 2 / 3

Transfer to Akagera National Park from Kigali

After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, our safari guide will pick you up and drive you to Akagera National Park. The journey takes about 2.3 hours, with scenic landscapes along the way—feel free to ask your guide for photo stops. The lodge, which can be accessed through the northern entrance, is the only one with direct access to the park.

You’ll spend two nights inside the park, where you’ll have ample opportunities for game drives to spot big mammals like elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelope species, and the newly reintroduced lions and rhinos. Akagera National Park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 500 bird species. Additionally, you can enjoy other activities such as boat rides, night game drives, bush walking safaris, and fishing.

Day 4

Transfer back to Kigali

After a relaxed breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Kigali and have lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where over 25,000 victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide are buried in a mass grave. The memorial serves as both a museum and an educational center, offering deep insights into Rwandan history. After your visit, you’ll return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Transfer for Nyungwe National Park.

Enjoy an early buffet breakfast, check out of your hotel, and drive towards the western province. On the way, visit the Royal Palace Museum and the Ethnographic Museum in the Southern Province. These visits will provide insights into traditional Rwandan lifestyles and historical kingship. After an en-route lunch, you’ll arrive at Nyungwe National Park in the afternoon and have the rest of the day to relax at your leisure.

The best adventure safaris in Rwanda lead you to Nyungwe Forest, a destination where the true essence of wilderness can be experienced. Unlike more visited parks, Nyungwe’s secluded trails through dense foliage offer an authentic and untamed forest experience, far from human interference. To fully immerse yourself in this environment, consider a canopy walk or exploring the waterfall trails.

Nyungwe National Park, fed by several rivers and believed to be the source of the Nile, provides crucial watering holes for its wildlife. It boasts around 13 primate species, diverse wildlife, and 310 bird species, including all 25 species of the Albertine Rift Mountains Endemic Bird Area found in Rwanda. Key activities in the park include chimpanzee trekking, colobus monkey trekking, and canopy walks, along with various nature trails. For hiking enthusiasts, Nyungwe Forest is a must-visit destination.

Day 6

Chimpanzee tracking at Nyungwe National Park

After enjoying an early morning cup of African coffee and a hearty breakfast, you’ll depart from your hotel to explore Nyungwe Forest, renowned for its 13 primate species. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll receive a briefing before embarking on a chimpanzee trekking adventure. You’ll have up to one hour to observe the chimpanzees once you find them. After the trek, enjoy lunch and a brief rest. In the afternoon, you can take part in one of the lodge’s complimentary activities or simply relax at the lodge.

Day 7

Waterfalls hike and Canopy Walk at Nyungwe National Park

Today, start your day with a romantic breakfast by the tea garden. Then, at 9 am, set off for a waterfall hike, where you’ll explore the stunning Nyungwe Forest, encountering various birds and primates along the way. After returning and refreshing, enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon canopy walk. This 70-meter suspended metal bridge offers a spectacular view of Nyungwe Forest. As you walk for about an hour and a half, you might spot additional primates from the treetops. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8

Transfer to musanze

After enjoying your morning breakfast, you’ll get ready to witness the beautiful sunrise over Lake Kivu. Embark on a boat ride to explore the lake’s attractions and take a nature walk on one of its islands, known for its large bat population. Lake Kivu is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, hosting species such as cormorants, pied kingfishers, weaver birds, and herons. After your lake activities, you’ll drive to Musanze, which is about a 3-hour drive away. Musanze is a popular area for tourists and serves as a base for visiting Volcanoes National Park, as most lodges are located here rather than inside the park itself.

Day 9

Gorilla Trekking Experience at Volcanoes National Park.

Start your day with an early cup of coffee, then prepare for the gorilla trekking briefing at the park headquarters. Afterward, enter the jungle with your packed lunch to search for the elusive mountain gorillas and observe their natural behavior. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll have an hour to sit and watch them interact, taking photos as you go. For this trek, a good level of fitness is necessary, along with walking shoes, packed food, mineral water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat. The trek can take from half a day to a full day, depending on the gorillas’ movements. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch, then relax and enjoy your afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Day 10

Golden monkey and transfer to Kigali airport

Today, after enjoying your warm breakfast early in the morning, our safari driver will pick you up and take you to the park headquarters for a briefing. Then you’ll begin your golden monkey trekking adventure. This experience is similar to gorilla trekking but less strenuous. Afterward, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch before transferring to Kigali Airport to catch your evening flight home. End of service!
